It too easy to get caught up working on eBay and the changes and not devoting the energy to other venues.

Great reminders.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4056474203732155833.post-24320405981877948372008-09-10T09:44:00.000-07:002008-09-10T09:44:00.000-07:00Cliff I believe Gary designed and implemented an e...Cliff I believe Gary designed and implemented an exit strategy. He does not strike me as being at all impulsive. I would bet that he analyzed several 'what if' scenarios and planned to hit the highway when indications that turmoil would continue through Q4 were clear.

eBay is betting the farm that sellers will hang on and adapt, historically that would be a good bet overall. It is the supreme irony that people will resist a large change by adapting to smaller changes, even harmful change.

When I was an eBay Answer Center volunteer I was amazed by how many sellers (even quite big ones) had zero concept of cost and overhead accounting. "Profit = sales price - purchase price" Really! Cost of envelopes, tape, printer paper and ink, bubblewrap, peanuts, tissue, HUH? Oh thats just little stuff, but little stuff can sink a battleship if there is enough of it.Henriettahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00980100650453154588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4056474203732155833.post-78289780604484352342008-09-09T22:55:00.000-07:002008-09-09T22:55:00.000-07:00Henrietta, thanks for sharing and good luck to Gar...Henrietta, thanks for sharing and good luck to Gary. This is an interesting story in that he got totally off eBay rather than just phasing down. With no intention of putting words in Gary's mouth, I get the feeling that this is a seller who would have considered staying if eBay supplied us with better tools for getting through their huge transition. Great quote from him on Google too.

Thanks,CliffCliffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15387068331314989062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4056474203732155833.post-3048737286595312132008-09-09T19:13:00.000-07:002008-09-09T19:13:00.000-07:00Too bad for eBay, wishing Gary every success as hi...Too bad for eBay, wishing Gary every success as his business moves up a level.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4056474203732155833.post-45125689843712832222008-09-09T13:58:00.000-07:002008-09-09T13:58:00.000-07:00Congrats to Gary and best of luck.
